Last Saturday I had the pleasure of joing the East Kent Cameras Flickr group for a night-time shoot at Ramsgate Harbour. Despite intermittent drizzle, air quality was good, and the sparkling lights in and around the harbour made for some great photography.
Once fully dark, all available light generally comes from artificial sources, creating a characteristic orangy tone, which on its own can look a little flat. To compensate for this, I had some fun with manual handheld flash, popping it at various angles to light the foreground in contrastingly cooler tones.
To finish off I took a walk round to the landward side of the harbour before shooting a sequence of three images, which I later made into a broad panorama.
